From InYourWorld

Jump to: navigation, search

InYourWorld.net is a MediaWiki application. This means that it behaves very similarly to websites like Wikipedia.

WikiMedia already has good documentation on how to read and edit a MediaWiki site. Editors should take a look at this. While readers should take a look here.

Note that Wiki's are very fluid and there is no real imposed structure on how the pages should be set out. However for ease of navigation it makes sense if new pages are similarly laid out.

To this end there are a number of style guides that we should try and stick to:

  1. Try to place specific locations in the correct geographic section. For instance, an article on Pissouri Beach, Cyprus. Should identify the continent, country & region and enter that information first. If possible you should try and add a map reference using the 'make a map' link below the editing toolbar.
  2. Try to maintain the category links. One of the useful things about MediaWiki is its ability to form categories. Thus if you're adding information about restaurants in Zygi (Cyprus) then your page should contain category links for: Cyprus
  3. Try to keep the same layout. There's almost no limit to what can be documented and kept here on InYourWorld. And this is a blessing and a curse. If all pages have a different layout then it's going to look a mess. So I've set up a [New Place template] which has all the sections, subsections and template category links for your new place.

Wiki's are almost living things and it would be crazy and harmful to try and impose to much order on to it. So let's hope these guides are enough to create a healthy and dynamic site.

Templates

I have defined a number of templates to help with the addition of new material. These give you guide headings for new places of interest. If you want to use a template insert the text '{{subst:Template:Name}}' into your page and save it. This will substitute the headings for that template into your page. Then you can edit it again.
